ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES FOR SUBCONCESSION OF THE BAIXO ALENTEJO MOTORWAY

The International Public Tender for subconcession of the conceptualisation, design, construction, rehabilitation, lane widening, financing, operation and conservation of the motorway and road section emerged as result of the need to increase the density of the road network in the border areas, to promote gap closure in road networks, and to improve the accessibility of some municipalities in order to correct the differences that continue to affect the socioeconomic development of the country.

- The objective of the project was preparing environmental studies of the detailed design for the various sections comprised in the Baixo Alentejo Motorway. The environmental studies prepared in this phase have the purpose of analysing, from the environmental perspective, the various sections comprised in the subconcession. These studies correspond to the preparation of Reports on Environmental Compliance of the Detailed Design (RECAPE), Technical Notes and Environmental Impact Studies (EIS). An analysis or reanalysis of the current situation is carried out, as appropriate, in the light of the layout adjustments made after the preparation of the EIS, in order to reassess the main impacts that can be generated. In cases where the sections have been subject to an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), there is the need to determine the changes between the preliminary design and the detailed design, to analyse the main environmental impacts resulting from these changes, and to check that the characteristics of the project ensure the conditions established in the EIA.
